What does it mean to participate? Going to vote in elections or referendums? Having a membership card for a party, a club, a team, or a sauna? Meeting on Facebook, Discord, at the parish hall, or at the theater? Picket, hand out flyers, form a cordon? Does it mean sharing passions or making decisions? Is it really a form of freedom or is it hidden slavery? Is it the indispensable prerequisite for democracy or is it something that serves to sell yet another snack?
Prendere Parte means all these things together, and much more. This is a public meeting to navigate the complexity of participation by looking at the research and cross-cutting practices of cheFare – agency for cultural transformation, in 15 years of work around Italy.
This event is part of PARTECIPAZIONE focus curated by ZONA K, Ateatro, and cheFare.
Three moments of investigation, in-depth analysis, and exchange on participatory artistic practices, cultural policies, and grassroots movements as a possible antidote to the growing polarization of society and the crisis of democratic institutions. Starting with Joan Subirats’ lectio magistralis Democrazia nell’Era dell’Accellerazione. New Spaces for ‘Us’, followed by two days of meetings on the theme of participation. From Buone Pratiche a Teatro curated by Ateatro, as a reflection on the artistic, social, and cultural impact of co-design and co-creation practices, to cheFare’s excursus on the objective and semantic complexity of Prendere Parte.
