Signal in Milano is a music performance en plein air specifically created to be experienced outdoor between the city’s streets, which manifests itself through the human voice.
The singing voice appears, disappears and returns, surrounding, interrupting and blending with everyday life, history and the architecture of the city. Signal In Milano invites all the listeners to move freely through the work, overcoming the division between performer and audience. With each step, the composition changes and the audience become co-artists, shaping a personal narrative shaped by movement, proximity and attention.
The Dutch compositors Strijbos & Van Rijswijk, with the help of the choreographer Emke Idema, stimulate the imagination through the sound, transforming the familiar city into a listening field and the ordinary in extraordinary. From an icon square of the city, the performance moves itself through the streets of Paolo Sarpi’s neighbourhood.

Strijbos & Van Rijswijk are two Dutch composers and sound artists. Over the course of a collaboration spanning more than twenty years, they have composed music for dance, theatre and concert halls, while also developing an in-depth practice in site-specific creation, questioning and experimenting with the union of sound and voices, drawing inspiration from the history and topography of their chosen locations, and move audiences through natural or urban landscapes to create a unique and immersive experience. Strijbos & Van Rijswijk work with communities, artists, ecologists, architects, scientists and thinkers to realise their projects. At the heart of their work there is the connection between audience, sound and music, and space. In their works, it is possible to walk through them, interact with them intervene on what you hear and where and how you listen to it.
